Church of the Holy Cross, Ossi
Facts and practical information
The church of Santa Croce is a religious building located in Ossi, a town in northwestern Sardinia. Consecrated to Catholic worship, it is part of the parish of San Bartolomeo, archdiocese of Sassari.
The only historically documented church within the town along with the parish church, it was enlarged at the turn of the 19th century by enlarging a primitive late-Gothic Catalan style layout. The crypt underneath is not currently open, and there has been serious damage in the restorations as well as questionable choices of interior decoration. It houses several simulacra belonging to the parish church and a valuable 18th-century simulacrum depicting St. Isidore agricola.
It has been officiated there since the mid-16th century by the archconfraternity of the same name, composed of a male and a female branch, both led by a prior, particularly active in the evocative rites of Holy Week but at one time also as a participant in funeral processions and various annual processions such as the rogazioni.
