Chiesa parrocchiale Beata Vergine Assunta, Sardara
Facts and practical information
The Church of the Blessed Virgin of the Assumption is a religious building located in Sardara, a town in southwestern Sardinia. Consecrated to Catholic worship, it is the seat of the parish of the same name and is part of the diocese of Ales-Terralba. Built in the early decades of the 1600s, probably on a pre-existing Romanesque church, it has a square-bore bell tower, built between 1634 and 1639, demolished and then rebuilt in 1706. Inside there is an ancient pipe organ from 1758, a valuable marble altar and wooden statues, including that of St. Bartholomew, wooden busts of Saints Peter and Paul, and a retable with an 18th-century wooden altar of Our Lady of Itria.
