Galleria d'arte moderna di Udine, Udine
Facts and practical information
The Udine Gallery of Modern Art, now closed and replaced by the new Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art at Casa Cavazzini, was founded in 1885 by Antonio Marangoni, a Udine merchant. It was based at the "Palamostre" complex and included more than 4,000 works including paintings, sculptures, architectural drawings, and graphics.
GAMUD's collections are now on display in the new home of Casa Cavazzini, a building in the historic center of Udine donated to the City of Udine by the family of Udine merchant and philanthropist Dante Cavazzini and the subject of a careful restoration, based on an original design by Gae Aulenti, which was completed in 2011.
On October 6, 2012, the new museum, named "Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art," was inaugurated as an enriching replacement for the former GAMUD.
