Area dei templi dello Scoglietto, Maremma Regional Park
Facts and practical information
The area of the Scoglietto temples is located along the road that connects Alberese to the beach of Marina di Alberese, in the southwestern part of the municipality of Grosseto, within the protected area of the Maremma Natural Park. About 3 km from the sea, the promontory of Scoglietto, the northern appendix of the Monti dell'Uccellina, still preserves the traces of settlements that followed one another from prehistoric times until modern times, when an olive grove was planted on its slopes by the Grand Duke of Tuscany.
The promontory is also traversed by a portion of the mighty enclosure wall, more than 12 km long, built perhaps in the Renaissance period and later restored by the Opera Nazionale Combattenti to divide the forested area from the area used for agricultural activities. On the northern termination of the ancient promontory stands the Sanctuary of Diana Umbronensis.
