Museo civico Goffredo Bellini, Asola
Facts and practical information
The Goffredo Bellini Civic Museum is located in Asola, in the province of Mantua.
The material on display, donated by Asolo collector Goffredo Bellini, offers an overview that spans the millennia of history, from prehistory to the 20th century, with an exhibition organized by chronological and thematic paths complemented by a concise didactic apparatus. The itinerary includes a variety of materials-fossils, stone, wood, ceramics-divided according to provenance: prehistoric evidence from the area, an Egyptian stele from 2134-2040 B.C.E. an Attic black-figure bowl from the late sixth century B.C.E. grave goods from the Celts and Etruscans, Roman "thin-walled" ceramic artifacts. Added to this are recent donations of archaeological finds, paintings and the valuable Veneto Atlas published in 1690 by geographer Vincenzo Maria Coronelli, evidence of Venice's rule over Asola. Following a recent arrangement, the Giovan Battista Tosio Parish Museum of Sacred Art is attached to the Bellini Museum. On display are the most precious objects of sacred art, paintings, vestments, paintings, statues, goldwork, chalices, reliquaries, candlesticks, and rare 16th-century wooden sculptures, all from the adjacent ancient cathedral, built in the late Lombard Gothic style. It adheres to the MaNet network, which has been operating since 2004.
