Chiesa di Santa Maria Iscalas
Facts and practical information
The church of Santa Maria Iscalas is a country church located in the territory of Bonnanaro, a town in northwestern Sardinia. Consecrated to Catholic worship, it is part of the parish of San Giorgio, archdiocese of Sassari.
The present church, built in 1682, rests on a layout that can be traced back to the medieval period. It is a reconstruction of a building erected in 1605 - later collapsed due to static failure or perhaps a landslide - at the behest and with a grant from the notable Bidora De Campus, prioress of the confraternity of Santa Croce, as indicated by the inscription on the lintel of a side door.
