Castello della Villa, Montecchio Maggiore
Facts and practical information
Romeo and Julia castles - a complex of two medieval castles separated by a valley located in Montecchio Maggiore, Italy in the Venice Euganska region, in Vicenza province.
The castles were renewed in the 1930s. The Romeo Castle has been preserved in a state that does not require changes, while the tower and external walls remained from Julia's castle. There is a series of fourteen frescoes of Pino Casarini referring to the fate of Romeo and Julia. The place was originally propagated by the local legend, which he described and in 1530 published the writer Luigi Da Porto, who lived in nearby Vicentino, probably benefited from the work of three centuries ahead of him satirist Massuccia Salernitano Mariotto and Ganosis. William Shakespeare provided the lover, who knew the translation referring to this legend of the novel, whose author was Matteo Brandtello.
