Uomo Masso, Elba
Facts and practical information
Masso dell'Omo is a relief on the island of Elba. Better known as L'Omo, it is a peculiar monzogranitic formation that is part of the Monte Capanne Range and reaches a height of 532 meters above sea level. The toponym is derived from the very shape of the rock formation, which until December 17, 2004, had anthropomorphic features. At Masso dell'Omo there are rock burials whose grave goods included an amber vagus necklace of the Tiryns type, two bronze fibulae, clay spindle whorls and a sandstone millstone with pestle. A pastoral quarter, the Caprile dell'Omo, is located in the area, along with the Naked Woman Boulder with another caprile nearby.
