Church of San Michele
Facts and practical information
The church of San Michele a Luicciana is located in the municipality of Cantagallo, in the province and diocese of Prato.
It stands on the small rise dominating the settlement, probably in the area of a vanished 12th-century castle.
Documented from the 13th century, it was enlarged in the early 18th century and considerably transformed around 1760; these interventions gave the interiors, adorned with altars, niches and confessionals, a graceful and unified appearance.
The altar of Our Lady of the Rosary houses an 18th-century robed statue of the Madonna and Child, one of the few remaining examples of a type of image that was once widespread.
