Church of San Michele
Facts and practical information
The church of San Michele is a country church located in the territory of Ghilarza-a town in central Sardinia-from which it is about five kilometers away; Consecrated to Catholic worship, it belongs to the archdiocese of Oristano.
The present factory, dating from the late 17th century, stands on the ruins of the Byzantine church of Sant Miguel of Urri. Although it has been remodeled several times, it retains the features of the 18th-century layout. The church, surrounded by numerous hovels called muristenes or cumbessias where the noverants stay, is the site of prayer and community life during the St. Michael's novena held every year in the first days of May.
