Facts and practical information

The sanctuary of San Costantino, locally called santuario di Santu Antinu is a rural sanctuary in Sardinia, located on a hillock called Monte Isei, within the municipal boundaries of Sedilo. The church, the centerpiece of the sanctuary, protected by ancient walls, rises within a large sloping area within the hill, from which one can enjoy the panoramic view of nearby Lake Omodeo.

In the area around the church, within a walled enclosure called sa corte, the Ardia, a spectacular horse race celebrated in honor of St. Constantine, Augustus of the Roman Empire who in 313 issued the Edict of Milan guaranteeing religious freedom and thus contributing to the end of persecution of Christians, takes place in July. The owner of the shrine, whose cult on the island is a legacy of Byzantine rule. Of all the places of worship dedicated in the territories of the Italian Republic to St. Constantine, this one in Sedilo is the most important.
