Chiesa della Madonna della Rosa, Chianciano Terme
Facts and practical information
The Church of Our Lady of the Rose is located in Chianciano Terme, in the province of Siena.
The building was erected between 1585 and 1599. The plan adopted by Baldassarre Lanci da Urbino, the designer of the complex, was that of the Greek cross. The classicist facade is of great simplicity, and the four arms of the church unite under a square tiburium with a polygonal lantern.
The church takes its name from the fresco preserved inside, which depicts the Madonna holding a rose to the Child, the work of a 15th-century Sienese artist. Another fresco, the so-called Madonna delle Carceri, is a 14th-century Sienese work.
