Castello Dei Fieschi, Montoggio
Facts and practical information
The castle of Montoggio, set to guard the upper Scrivia valley, became the property of the Fieschi family, one of the most influential Genoese families, who made it one of their strongholds especially in the 15th and 16th centuries.
It remains linked above all to the events of the conspiracy of Gianluigi Fieschi in 1547 and its dramatic conclusion; in fact, in those circumstances it was completely destroyed. Today only a few ruins covered by vegetation remain of it, visible on a hill located not far from the center of Montoggio, in the metropolitan city of Genoa.
