The Reggio Calabria Civic Art Gallery is located at the Francesco Cilea Theater. It exhibits paintings and canvases of special significance among which are tablets painted by Antonello da Messina, works by Mattia Preti, Giuseppe Benassai and Renato Guttuso; while a sculpture section is devoted to marble busts and classical sculptures.
Demanded to display the collections owned by the municipality scattered in other museums and offices, the Pinacoteca was inaugurated by House Speaker Gianfranco Fini on May 26, 2008. The restoration and museum design was supervised by Prof. Arch. Fabio Mariano.
