Probably built on a Romanesque temple, it is mentioned and explicitly described in documents dating from 1553 and 1555; a first phase of rebuilding was completed in 1775 but, between 1881 and 1895, the facade was completely redone, in heavy neoclassical style, using blocks of local red trachyte.
