Church of San Giacomo
Facts and practical information
The church of San Giacomo is a place of worship located in the historic center of Nughedu Santa Vittoria, a small town on the edge of Barigadu, a historical region of central Sardinia. Built and consecrated to Catholic worship, formerly included in the diocese of Barigadu is now part of the archdiocese of Oristano. It is the seat of the parish of the same name.
The epigraph once placed in the chancel and now disappeared "PROCVRANTE GREGORIO PLASSA HOC OPVS PERFECTVM FVIT ANNO A NATIVITATE DOMINI M. DC. XXXIIII," reported by presbyter Vittorio Angius, indicated the date of 1634, when procurator was Gregorio Plassa, as the year of completion of work in all likelihood of the interior part of the church. This date is also found engraved in the keystone of the presbytery. In contrast, 1674, the number engraved in the tympanum of the portal, would date the completion of the exterior part of the building.
