Parco della Musica, Cagliari
Facts and practical information
The Music Park is a multifunctional complex in Cagliari built to host musical and cultural events of various types; it was inaugurated on May 7, 2011, during the Monumenti Aperti event, with the opening of the open spaces, including the Amedeo Nazzari Square, while the full opening of the new theater spaces will also take place in the summer of 2011.
The large multipurpose facility houses, in addition to the Teatro Lirico, a 319-seat reduced theater, Piazza Amedeo Nazzari, a large new plaza, as well as two underground parking lots with 178 spaces and 354 spaces. It is spread over an area of 50,000 sq. m. in the Fonsarda district, between the Lyric Theater, inaugurated in 1993 and now integrated within the park, and the elementary and middle schools in Piazza Giovanni XXIII.
The Park includes a set of squares, green and tree-lined spaces, as well as an artificial waterway that can be overtaken by a small wooden bridge. There is a musical fountain with synchronized movements to the notes of Georg Friedrich Händel. A large bridge runs alongside the Lyric Theater and the small theater connecting the two, as well as overhanging the technical workshops.
In June 2012, criticism was raised by a Pdl city councilor regarding the failure to open the parking lots made in Nazzari Square and the discovery of asbestos during excavations for the park extension on Bacaredda Street.
In January 2014, work was completed with the 645 parking spaces and park expansion.
