The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta is a sacred building located in Piancastagnaio.
It is documented from 1188. The entrance is on the left side, where some single-light windows remain. It has a single nave with filaretto masonry, truss roofing and three transverse ogival arches, and crenellated Romanesque bell tower.
The chapel of the Blessed Sacrament is a Baroque room with frescoes, a monolithic immersion basin and a 15th-16th century baptismal font. That of the Santissima Annunziata has a Baroque wooden altarpiece adorned with the Annunciation; below is a wooden Dead Christ by Pasquale Leoncini. On the right wall is a stone pulpit. In the main chapel, a 15th-century tabernacle for Holy Oil. In the sacristy, a fresco of the Pietà with Saints Francis and Rocco by Francesco Nasini.
