Castello della Pietra, Vobbia
Facts and practical information
The Stone Castle is an ancient fortification located in the Ligurian municipality of Vobbia, situated in the valley of the same name tributary to the Scrivia stream. It is the main and most characteristic monument of the Genoa hinterland, a cultural and scenic attraction of the Antola Regional Natural Park and included in the list of Italian national monuments.
Situated in a picturesque elevated position between two spurs of rocky conglomerate that form its natural ramparts, it dominates the road that runs alongside the Vobbia stream up its course from Isola del Cantone. The castle can only be reached on foot via a path through the woods, and a flight of steps, after an evocative twenty-minute walk starting from the provincial road. It is also possible to reach the site by following another, somewhat longer path from the hamlet of Torre di Vobbia, called the Sentiero dei Castellani. In 2014, extraordinary works took place along the path and to the structure with the temporary closure of the site to the public. It is also possible to visit the castle inside on holidays from Easter Monday to the end of October; and, by agreement with the Antola Park Authority, for groups and groups on other weekdays.
