Torretta del Bagno, Capraia
Facts and practical information
The Torretta del Bagno is one of four coastal towers on the island of Capraia in the Tuscan archipelago.
It is located on the eastern side of the island very close to the sea, at the foot of the rise of the castle of San Giorgio. It was built by the Genoese in 1790 for the defense of Fort San Giorgio in case of siege. A rampant arch connects it to the steep rock face where a protected walkway led to Fort San Giorgio.
The tower is cylindrical in shape, tall and narrow, covered by a small dome that has collapsed today. Near the turret is one of the most popular bathing spots on the island, with flat rocks.
